Rosie & Wellington 24/Jun/2008
Rosie & Wellington wanted a simple and usable online shop-front. In order to reach a compromise between usability and the scalability required for their expanding and diversifying product range I needed to go back to the drawing board.
Visit the Rosie & Wellington Bedlinen Online Shop
I developed a new navigation and refinement scheme which simplifies the product search whilst allowing for an constantly evolving product categories and their associated characteristics. For example, bedlinen needs to be identifiable by material, colour, size, etc. whilst duvets need to be identifiable by TOG, size, filling, etc. The system copes with this need for flexibility whilst presenting the shopper with an intuitive tool for finding the products that they are looking for.
Apprentice Facebook App 10/May/2008
With this app you can create your own business board and join your friends' boards to discuss and vote on each episode and predict who you think will be fired next time. To create a board you need to get hiring by going to the 'hire' screen, choosing a friend and job title (from a list or by creating your own) and shooting off an invitation. There is no limit to the number of people you can add to your board or the number of boards you can sit on. If you're the chairman of the board you can also hire and fire anyone on a whim.
I built the front end in CSS and HTML whilst the backend was built by Toby Beresford See it here
RHS - MyGarden 10/Apr/2008
The RHS developed a social networking sites for gardeners which allowed them to blog, share photos and discuss topics in forums. I created the design from scratch in Illustrator and implemented in HTML and CSS.
VideoJug Brain-o-Meter Facebook App 17/Mar/2008
Get a bigger brain with the utterly fantastical ‘VideoJug Brain-o-Meter’. Search and watch videos, learn lots of stuff you didn't know, teach your friends weird and wonderful things and grow the size of your brain from Pea-Sized to Master of the Universe.

Sothebys Systems Integration 20/Dec/2007
Sothebys Institute of Art had a number of websites and databases holding student, staff, and alumni information. Using MySQL, PHP, HTML, CSS and AJAX I built a centralised registration and authorisation system that integrated the websites and merged the databases.
The merging of the information required migrating, cleansing, and deduplicating old and new data across databases and platforms.
The registration system records user information and restricts access to parts of the various component sites that they are not allowed to access. An AJAX selection system was used for the courses input to allow users to quickly find the courses that they have attended whilst minimising duplication and possibility other user errors.
I merged the Google Maps API and Map24 API to build a 'Quick Address' style address completion system where users input their postcode and the rest of the address is completed automatically. Again, this minimises user error and stores the addresses in a uniform way in case they need to be used in future.

Comic Relief Xmas Facebook App 14/Dec/2007
The Comic Relief Xmas Cracker was a project aimed at raising money for charity using the viral appeal of Flash video and the ready-made audience that Facebook offers. I created the Flash Video player and styled the interfaces using CSS and Facebook Markup Language (FBML)
For fourteen days over Xmas 2007 users received a daily BBC comedy clip (a 'cracker'). In order to watch the videos the user was asked to buy a cracker for at least one Facebook friend. Users could then track the statistics showing them how many of their friends made a donation adding a competitive element and ultimately raised more money for Comic Relief

Sothebys Course Microsites 31/Oct/2007
This system enables Sothebys Institute to create a 'Microsite' for each of their courses. The microsite combines an expandable breakdown of sessions with downloadable course materials, a map, directions, a course questionnaire and a bespoke forum. They are created and populated through a PHP and MySQL back-end.
The course microsite interface was created with HTML, CSS, and AJAX and generated dynamically using PHP and MySQL.

goWander.com CSS 06/Oct/2007
goWander is a social networking site for travellers. I took the mockups from the designers and translated into accessible and search engine friendly XHTML and CSS pages for the developers.
Complan Search Engine Optimisation 20/Sep/2007
Complan Foods required an over-haul of their 3 sites to optimise performance in search engine results. This required rebuilding the designs in CSS and removing aspects that inhibited the indexing of the sites by Google and other search engines.
Keyword analysis revealed key terms that were used strategically amongst the page content to ensure that the sites appeared in prime position on the search results pages for appropriate searches.

Sotheby's Career System 20/Jul/2007
The Sotheby's Institute Alumni site had plenty of useful information for students, alumni and employers but required a system to enable these user's to find each other. I enhanced their website to handle CV uploads/search (for students and alumni) and job upload/search (for employers). The job involved a complete rebuilding of the site using CSS for accessibility and easier maintenance.
HappeningUK Invoice System 10/Sep/2006
HappeningUK needed a centralised system for tracking and storing invoices. I built this as an extension to the current online admin system. It allows Area Sales Managers to add, edit, email and print invoices and automates tasks that previously required constantly updating multiple spreadsheets.
I have since developed Pivot Tables and Charts in Excel that connect to the database and dynamically update for use in reports for clients. This is another way that the system has greatly improved workflow.
Joel Summerfield's Portfolio Site 18/Aug/2006
A friend of mine was embarking on his first job hunt after graduating from University with a BSc in Applied Computing. I put this simple site together for him to communicate his abilities and experience to potential employers. He got a job within a month so it must have helped!
Mawdsley Arbor Tree Care Website 08/Jun/2006
Chris Mawdlsey needed a very simple and low budget brochure site for potential customers to reach him through. This small site features a clean design through clean, accessible and search engine friendly code.
HappeningUK Database Admin System 01/Jun/2006
HappeningUK's administration tasks were taking up much of the management team's valuable time. Each client needed weekly updates on: activity planned, invoices and activity completed which was previously handled by a baffling number of spreadsheets and inefficient duplication of information. Using PHP and MySQL I developed this system to streamline the company's admin tasks.
The results were that the Management team were enabled to look after wider areas, and in some cases, part time student managers were employed to look after cities. The system made reporting easier but also regulated the type of information that was reported and enabled clients and senior management to monitor progress. The result: Decreased Management hours wasted and a leaner sales force.
The system incorporated Google maps for the teams and clients to find the venues in which the activity was happening (previously handled by emailing maps/directions or getting phone calls from lost staff late on a Saturday evening!). On online gallery enabled promotions Team Leaders to upload photos after promotions that could be instantly viewed by Management and clients.
CSS was used to deliver branding and appropriate design depending on who was using the site. The system knows who is logging in so can deliver the branding that is appropriate to the user. This means that clients experience a bespoke system whilst sharing the resources with others.
A summary of the system's capabilities:
David & Co - Debt Advisers Website 01/Jan/2006
David & Co needed a restyling of an existing site within 2 weeks. They needed something that looked clean and inviting. I rooted out old obsolete presentational code and added a CSS styling scheme to the whole site so that restyling can be done easily and the site is accesssible and search engine friendly.
